On the second leg of his world tour, photographer Martin Leonhardt’s journey continues northward across the American continent. He crosses Central America, travels on to Mexico and into the United States, and ventures endless kilometers deep into the Arctic and Alaska. An exciting journey marked by boundless freedom and a life lived to the fullest, with no time constraints and no fixed destination. The vast continent holds many surprises.
Through his narrative style, the author takes viewers directly along on the journey, which is marked by hundreds of nights in the great outdoors, spontaneous encounters, and emotional moments amidst breathtaking landscapes.
In Central America, a Latin American lifestyle continues to shape daily life on the road. Bizarre stories of black markets, fire-breathing volcanoes, and heated cockfights shape everyday travel life. Shortly thereafter, Mexico reveals its unexpectedly vast diversity: from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast, from the Mayan ruins to the Day of the Dead celebrations. From Chiapas all the way up to the deserts in the north of the country, Martin spends many months in the land of constant sunshine. Once again, it is the people and their stories that give the adventurer’s journey a new direction.
Saying goodbye to the colorful Latin world is difficult, but it’s made up for by the impressive landscapes and vast canyons of the northwestern United States. The journey through the States, however, remains grueling and, after several setbacks, a
accident, and breakdowns, nearly pushes the author to his limits. Nevertheless, the journey continues spectacularly over thousands of kilometers of rugged terrain all the way to the Arctic coast and on to Alaska. There, in the home of grizzly bears and wolves, along the Arctic Circle with its long days and colorful northern lights, the proximity of the vast wilderness can be felt like never before.
All these experiences far from home also provide heartwarming moments that offer new perspectives on the wonders of this world. All these experiences from 18 months and 42,000 kilometers are just one leg of an “almost” endless journey around this
world, always guided by the motto: “Don’t dream your life away. Live your dream!”
