Saint-Saëns - Concerto for Violin and Orchestra no. 3 in B minor op. 61
Dvořák - Symphony No. 8 in G major op. 88
Delicately dreamy, exquisitely beautiful, heavenly virtuoso: Camille Saint-Saëns' third violin concerto simply has it all. Just like star violinist Julia Fischer, who will present this magnificent work.
Saint-Saëns composed his violin concerto in 1880 for the violinist of the century, Pablo de Sarasate, and it captivates with enchanting melodies and a subtly impressionistic interplay of timbres. But the framework that the Orchestre National de France sets around this soloistic highlight is also worth listening to. Hector Berlioz's overture to his opera Béatrice et Bénédict forms the cheerful prelude to this evening, which comes to a radiant conclusion with Antonín Dvořák's delightful Symphony No. 8.
