In this new show, Roland Baisch reads excerpts from his autobiography, *A Boy Named Renate*, and provides the perfect soundtrack to accompany them. It’s an entertaining, funny, and deeply moving evening that takes the audience on a wonderful journey.
Mr. Baisch’s fantastic journey began with the miracle of his birth, which was so mysterious that it is still celebrated today in his hometown with an annual folk festival known as “The Miracle of Ehingen.” At the heart of this comedic and musical reading evening are texts that Roland Baisch crafts—drawing on his own life story—as a richly embellished portrait of postwar Western German society.
He narrowly escaped the stuffy, stifling atmosphere of his youth with the help of music and entertainment on a journey into the unknown: “A Boy Named Renate” is a brimming grab bag of songs and stories that touch the heart, along with plenty of humor that strays from well-trodden comedy paths. Baron Münchhausen meets the serious side of life, Johnny Cash meets Frank Sinatra and Harald Juhnke.
