Writing styles V - Writing workshop: The things
Toothbrush. Bicycle. Kettle. We deal with things all day long. In literary texts, they play a silent but important role. Rainer Maria Rilke wrote a whole series of "thing poems". The French semiotician Roland Barthes used things, such as a stopped clock, to create the "éffet de réel" - the illusion of reality created by words - which is indispensable for literature. The Romantic Novalis hallucinated a
"blue flower", which became the epitome of Romanticism. In the environment of the Surrealists and Dadadists, a urinal made it into the art museum and became the world-famous
"fountain". At our zwischen/ding in November, we want to practise similar magic using our own things. We will approach them in stories, poems or mini-dramas, using avant-garde and conventional writing techniques. Bring any thing you like.
