Suddenly my step no longer echoes Selma Meerbaum on her 100th birthday (1924-1942)

"There is so much colorful happening, so much living life."

A Jewish girl writes poetry about love, happiness, longing, despair and parting. At the age of 18, she dies of typhus in a Nazi labor camp.

Her poems survive and become world literature.

A youthful voice of longing, of early realization; a powerful, albeit melancholy voice of searching for one's own identity, to which the listener can connect almost effortlessly.

Selma Meerbaum grew up speaking German in the multi-ethnic metropolis of Czernowitz, just like Paul Celan and Rose Ausländer.
