In Roland Schimmelpfennig’s new play, a family celebration becomes the setting for friction, constraints, desire, and unconscious destructive impulses. The power of the family and the old roles into which one, long since an adult, falls back flash by—sometimes comically, sometimes menacingly—until the middle-class facade of the familiar home begins to crumble in an eerie way.
