Historical events and local city history.

Bad Cannstatt is not only the most populous district of Stuttgart, but also the oldest - settlement here can be traced back to the Stone Age. The Bad Cannstatt City Museum displays important historical events and topics from local history in the medieval Klösterle-Scheuer.

Around 250,000 years ago, people were already living on the Neckar in Cannstatt - this is impressively illustrated by a travertine stone with the fossilized remains of a camp and battle site. The Romans secured the Limes against the Germanic tribes by building an equestrian fort "Auf der Steig" around 90 AD. A diorama shows various scenes of provincial Roman life in Cannstatt. The medieval townscape, which survived well into the 19th century, is illustrated in a detailed model of the town.

On the upper floor, the Bad Cannstatt Town Museum presents the permanent exhibition "Panorama Cannstatt", which reflects the different facets of Cannstatt as a Neckar town, royal town, literary town, home town and much more. Other topics in the permanent exhibition include bathing life, the beginnings of industrialization and examples of prominent "Cannstatter". In regular special exhibitions, the city museum also explores other exciting aspects of Cannstatt's history.
