"The greatest happiness is to believe in oneself." The life and poetry of Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf, the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

No one can free people from their suffering. But much will be forgiven to him who gives them new courage to bear their suffering. (Selma Lagerlöf, 1858-1940)

The Swedish poet Selma Lagerlöf was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. She dedicated her work to the love of humanity. Despite her realistic assessment of life, virtue, kindness and renunciation of selfishness always triumphed over harshness and malice in Selma Lagerlöf's work. Her children's book "The Wonderful Journey of Little Nils Holgersson with the Wild Geese" made her world-famous.
