6:30 a.m. The alarm goes off, and while still half-asleep, my inner optimization program kicks in: agree to volunteer, get the neighborhood help initiative started, bake a vegan organic lemon cake (without lemon) for school, do some wall Pilates first, and don’t forget my daily skincare routine. The plan is set, but a rough start is inevitable: my toe smacks the bedpost, the smart-home system fails to raise the blinds, and the coffee maker goes on strike. Welcome to life. Welcome to FAILURE DELUXE—the new musical cabaret and comedy show by Tina Häussermann.
With subtle irony, Häussermann zooms in on the pitfalls of our present day. With a sharp eye and plenty of humor, she bridges the gap between the small and the big at the piano: from stumbling at the orthodontist’s office to the downfall of trying to save the world with a balcony power plant. She searches ChatGPT for solutions to exponential functions, only to end up—caught between her deeply relaxed husband, feminist ideals, and teenage tornadoes—suffering a monumental failure at the self-checkout lane at the supermarket.
But what, then, is the luxury of cultivated failure? It lies in the fact that it is the best fertilizer for the mind. Häussermann proves that true growth begins only where the plan ends. Every wrong decision, every stumble and misstep ultimately brings the priceless reward of insight—even if it’s just the certainty that you really can’t assemble that IKEA dresser without the instructions after all.
FAILURE DELUXE is an ode to the courage to be wrong. Häussermann talks about failure so charmingly that you suddenly come to see your own loss of control as an absolutely premium experience. A wonderfully liberating evening for everyone who wants to proudly say at the end: “I didn’t learn much, but I experienced a lot!”
