After 1870, spa operations in Cannstatt were discontinued due to industrialization. Shortly after the Nazis came to power, they planned a "large German national mineral spa". The lecture will shed light on the aims, motives and projects. Advance registration is requested due to limited places.

The spa business in Cannstatt had its heyday between 1835 and 1870, after which it was discontinued due to industrialization. It is therefore surprising that the National Socialists took measures shortly after coming to power to create a "large German mineral spa". In the lecture at the Bibliothek am Neckar, speaker Cornelia Wegemund will show the objectives and motives behind this and how the spa business was to be revived. These included the designation of Bad Cannstatt, special building projects, institutions, individuals and associations involved, new spas and contemporary advertising strategies. Rearmament, a shortage of labor and raw materials made it difficult to carry out the project. The Second World War also played its part. The event is being held in cooperation with Pro Alt-Cannstatt e.V..

Admission is free, but advance registration is requested by e-mail stadtteilbibliothek.badcannstatt@stuttgart.de or telephone 0711 216-80920 due to limited places.

About the speaker: After many years working as a marketing and sales manager in industry, Cornelia Wegemund is currently studying for a master's degree in history at the University of Stuttgart.
