Walter Sittler und das Orchester der Kulturen

"And now let us believe in a long year," wrote Rainer Maria Rilke in a letter
to his wife Clara in 1907. Inspired by Rilke’s words, we hope that “The Other New Year’s Concert” will encourage hope, confidence, and an openness to new things. It’s different because, for example, we recommend fewer waltzes and more world music—without losing our connection to local sounds. After all, the “Orchestra of Cultures,” under the direction of Adrian Werum, has made it its mission to reinvent traditional musical pieces through a fusion of orchestral sounds with ethnic instruments from around the world.
Accompanied by these diverse musical arrangements, actor Walter Sittler reads gems of poetry and prose—sometimes lighthearted, sometimes contemplative. His theater engagements have taken him to venues such as the National Theater in Mannheim and the State Theater in Stuttgart. A recipient of the German Television Award, he has become known to a wide audience through the series “Girl Friends,” “Nikola,” as well as the series “Ein Fall für den Fuchs” and “Der Kommissar und das Meer,” in addition to many other films.
