Frederick Knott *Wait Until Dark* Mystery

The 1967 film adaptation, starring Audrey Hepburn in the lead role, is a classic mystery! This thriller was based on Frederick Knott’s successful Broadway play. Now, for the first time, this mystery is coming to the stage of the Altes Schauspielhaus!

Susy Hendrix has been blind since a car accident. One day, her husband Sam brings home a toy doll from a business trip—without realizing that it contains drugs. While Susy is home alone, the gangsters Mike, Carlino, and Roat try to get their hands on the doll. But Susy resorts to a clever ruse: she completely blackens out the apartment. In this way, as a blind woman, she has the upper hand over the sighted criminals. A relentless battle ensues, even among the criminals themselves.

Audrey Hepburn was nominated for an Oscar for her role as the blind Susy, who, through her clever and courageous actions, proves her independence—which she seemed to have lost due to her disability.

At the Altes Schauspielhaus, this role is played by Barbro Viefhaus, who drew attention for her nuanced character portrayals in *Wunderheiler* and *Die acht Frauen*.

The play is directed by Robin Telfer, who has already won the Audience Award several times at our theaters. He most recently kept mystery fans on the edge of their seats with his production of “Murder, She Wrote,” also penned by Frederick Knott.
