Angela Winkler and Nele Winkler will read from Ingeborg Bachmann’s work to mark the 100th anniversary of her birth
Ingeborg Bachmann needs no introduction in the German-speaking world. She has become an icon in her field, a role model for many female authors who followed in her footsteps.
Her incomparable literary language cuts with razor-sharp precision into the mind and heart.
Angela Winkler (The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, The Tin Drum, Dark) has been one of the most influential actresses in German-language theater and film for decades. She has worked, among other places, at Berlin’s Schaubühne and with directors such as Peter Zadek, Robert Wilson, and Peter Stein, and is also known to a wide audience through numerous film and television productions. Her daughter, Nele Winkler, is a permanent ensemble member at Berlin’s RambaZamba Theater—one of Europe’s most renowned inclusive theaters—where she has been developing extraordinary theatrical works that blend acting, performance, and music for many years.
Together, mother and daughter lend a unique voice to Bachmann’s texts. In their reading, two generations of actors come together and open an intense dialogue with an author whose work remains one of the most compelling literary explorations of truth and historical amnesia, language, reality, and societal role models.
