Weihnachten am Stuttgarter Hof

Location:
Leonhardskirche, Leonhardsplatz 26, 70182 Stuttgart

Our Christmas concert is a contemplative way to close out the year. French Christmas music from the program “Noëls français – De la crèche à la cour de Versailles” sets the mood for the holiday season. These artful Noëls combine folk melodies with the refined French musical language of the 17th and 18th centuries—a tradition that also played a defining role at the Württemberg court in Stuttgart around 1700.

In addition to Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonata for Transverse Flute and Harpsichord and a Sonata for Viola da Gamba, we will feature selected movements from Agostino Steffani’s “Sonate da camera à tre” (1705) will be performed as a preview of our upcoming rediscovery of Steffani’s opera *Henrico Leone*. You will encounter the overture and individual movements of this sonata again in that production.

Program

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750):
Sonata in E minor for transverse flute and harpsichord (BWV 1034)
Sonata in G major for viola da gamba and harpsichord (BWV 1027)

Agostino Steffani (1654–1728):
Sonata da camera à tre – Excerpts

Michel-Richard Delalande (1657–1726):
Noëls en trio
