Owing to Stuttgart's geographic location in a valley basin, it has more flights of steps – known to the locals as "Stäffele" – than most other towns.
Idyllic paths and beautiful scenic lookouts guarantee so much variety on this original circular walk with no shortage of steps that you won't get bored, even after the 100th flight...
East Steps Tour:
Beginning with a walk through the Palace Gardens, you will pass the opera and the Staatgalerie. There you will climb the Eugenstaffel to the "Fair Galathea" statue. The route continues via the panoramamic streets of the Gänsheide and the "Kanonenhäusle" (Cannon House). You'll hear all about the people the steps you are climbing are named after. From the Villa Reizenstein you will enjoy a breathtaking view over the city. On the way down you'll will decent the Sinner Stäffele. The tour ends in the Akademiegarten behind the new castle.
On this roundtrip you will climb selected easy Stäffele and will hear funny and interesting stories about the citie’s history. The former “Wengertstaffeln” are nowadays the perfect connection between the residential districts at the former Weinsteige. Many stories and anecdotes are about the Staffeln and the wonderful views reward the climb.
Please note: comfortable shoes and physical fitness are a must for this tour. Wheelchair users and parents with children in prams are requested to choose one of our other interesting outings instead.
