Lusthausruine Stuttgart

In the central palace garden, on the left-hand side of the park towards the city, there is a staircase to the New Lusthaus: the ruins of the Lusthaus. The Old Lusthaus stood on the site of the Art Building on Schlossplatz.

Built by Georg Beer in the 16th century, the Renaissance building was famous for its ballroom, which was spanned by a cantilevered painted barrel ceiling. The two-storey building had a floor area of just under 70 x 25 m. The Lusthaus later served as a ducal and royal court theater until it fell victim to a fire in 1902. The staircase was erected in the Middle Palace Garden as a memorial.
