Preserving Steep Slopes, Growing Organic Wine

In late 2024, Markus Röver founded Sideline Wine GmbH as a family-run side business—the name says it all (English: “on the sideline”). The goal: to combine organic viticulture with the preservation of the steep terraced slopes at Cannstatter Zuckerle. Using traditional manual labor and organic farming methods, he cultivates the time-tested grape varieties Lemberger and Chardonnay. Additional plots are in the process of transitioning to organic farming.

The historic terraced vineyards at the Cannstatter Zuckerle are among the most valuable cultural landscapes in the Neckar Valley. Their traditional dry-stone walls not only form the historical foundation of viticulture but also provide ecological niches for endangered animal and plant species.

Wine Tasting: The wine tasting area (“open vineyard”) is located on Hofenerstraße. This street is closed to car traffic on Sundays between May and October. The nearest tram stop is Münster Rathaus.
