Although the Wernhaldenpark is located almost in the middle of Stuttgart, it is still relatively unknown. It lies below the Neue Weinsteige on a steep slope in the south of Stuttgart. The mountainous park is criss-crossed by steep paths, some of which wind upwards like serpentines. There are plenty of places to sit and those who make the climb are rewarded with a wonderful view of the Stuttgart basin.
Another highlight are the Californian redwood trees in the upper part of the park (there are more than 40 of them). Their planting goes back to King Wilhelm I of Württemberg, who purchased a pound of sequoia seeds in 1864.
In addition to this, there are two blades running through the Wernhaldenpark nature reserve. Small wooden bridges or rocks lead across them in places.
An excursion to Wernhalden Park can easily be combined with a hike on the Red Sock Trail or a short walk to Santiago de Chile Square.
