Group Tour: Urban Planning Up Close – Stuttgart 21 and the Europaviertel
It is one of Stuttgart’s most talked-about construction projects—the redesign of the main train station, the centerpiece of the Stuttgart 21 rail and urban development project. The tour first takes us to the construction site and gives us a better understanding of the vision for this transportation hub: The station will be barrier-free, flooded with light, and accessible from all four sides. The tour explains both the technical renovation of the historic Bonatz building for its future use and the extensive preservation efforts for the railway administration building above the city and long-distance rail tunnels. We’ll then continue on to the Europaviertel. Here, it becomes clear how a former freight yard now functions as a modern residential and commercial district. The front facade of the former “Postdörfle” also serves as a link to the past here. This tour offers a glimpse into both Stuttgart’s past and its future!
