Tour 7 - Im Naturschutzgebiet, wo die Arnika blühen

Hike to highland cattle and park-like pastures around the climatic health resort of Waldenburg in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park.

Between Obersteinbach and Tommelhardt, not far from Waldenburg, lie two special nature reserves: the Entlesboden and the Obere Weide. The wooded areas, characterized by birch groves and occasional mighty oaks, bear witness to a time when the surrounding farmers drove their cattle into the hillside meadows for summer grazing. The grass felt used as bedding for the stables was also obtained from these wooded pastures. This is how the sparse, park-like forest was created, which today is to retain its special character through targeted maintenance. These measures also serve to preserve rare plant species such as arnica and the spotted orchid.
