Exotischer und Botanischer Garten der Universität Hohenheim Stuttgart

in 7.5 Kilometer Start Route

It was once a ducal park - today everyone can marvel at the magnificent Exotic and Botanical Gardens. Hohenheim Palace, home to the University of Hohenheim, and its gardens have been an attraction for over 200 years.

In the Hohenheim Gardens, you can stroll through 30 hectares of parkland under old trees, along winding paths and over small streams. A unique garden experience awaits you with an incredible variety of over 8,000 plant species. And they are not only beautiful to look at, but also serve research purposes: as a scientific institution, the Hohenheim Gardens support teaching and research at the University of Hohenheim.

Exotic garden

In the former "English Garden" of Duke Carl Eugen of Württemberg, you will find an extraordinary stock of trees. Together with the landscape garden, the Exotic Garden forms the Baden-Württemberg State Arboretum, an incredible variety of deciduous and coniferous trees. In addition to caring for and preserving the trees and shrubs, one of the tasks of the Landesarboretum is to propagate and breed them.

At the weekend, the Museum of Hohenheim's History in the Spielhaus offers you an insight into the development of the university and gardens in Hohenheim. All trees, shrubs and perennials are labeled with their botanical and German names. This makes it easy for you to find your way around.

Landscape garden

In the architecturally designed landscape of the Landscape Garden, you can follow the development of a young garden. It is also part of the Landesarboretum.

Botanical garden

Below the castle, old trees, meadows and even a vineyard invite you to linger. The botanical garden also provides information on the history of vegetation from the Ice Age to the Middle Ages.
