Bilzweg
Local Mountain Delight – A Loop Hike with Panoramic Views Around Michelbach
The hike leads up to the local mountain, the Bilz, and connects several beautiful viewpoints into a varied loop hike.
Right from the start, you’ll see if you chose the right shoes: The climb up to the Bilz is steep and can be wet in places. Especially after rainy weather, the ground can be slippery—but you’ll quickly feel yourself gaining elevation with every step as the landscape gradually opens up.
Once you reach the top, the mountain offers a well-deserved reward: under three magnificent linden trees, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Uttenhofen and Westheim. The view across to Michelbach is particularly beautiful—Michelbach Castle is also clearly visible from here and, from this height, looks almost like a small model set in the landscape. If you take your time, you’ll discover new details in the distance: fields, forest edges, and the gentle rolling hills that make this area so distinctive.
Another rewarding section lies below the Jakobsruhe. From here, on a clear day, the view extends all the way to Schwäbisch Hall and the Waldenburger Berge—a vista that’s especially atmospheric in the late afternoon. Further along, there’s another beautiful view of Michelbach.
The route remains varied and eventually leads to a spot where the view of the Einkorn and Comburg opens up—a true “wow” moment.
To wrap things up, the trail passes the monument to Friedrich Carl Eggel, who planted the first larch tree in Baden-Württemberg. Afterward, the trail leads back to Michelbach at a leisurely pace—with many memories to take home and the satisfying feeling of having hiked the local mountain under your own steam.
